Never Alone
by Paul Rucker
"And know I am with you always; yes, to the end of time."(Mt
28:20). Christ has promised to be with us always. He did not abandon
us to walk the straight and narrow path to eternal glory by ourselves.
Jesus loves us so much that He humbled himself and took on the appearance
of bread to be with us. This thought and teaching of the Church
comforts me in my daily struggles. Christ is here with us in the
Holy Eucharist, loving us, talking to us, comforting us, giving
us strength.
Living in today's world can get rough for a single young man trying
to live his Christian vocation. There have been times in my life
when everything was going wrong. All I could do was trust in Christ
and he would always help me work things out. The Eucharist has given
me much needed strength and grace. Without receiving Christ everyday
at the Eucharistic Celebration and finding time to spend with him
in adoration things start to get more difficult. With Christ the
yoke becomes lighter.
Loneliness crept in my life a few years ago. It was then that I
started to frequent the Perpetual Adoration Chapel and Mass. In
those moments I could feel Christ's presence in the Eucharist. He
was there speaking to me and consoling me. I found my strength in
Christ. It was Christ I was longing for and only He could fill the
emptiness in my heart.
Certain sins in my life have kept a tight grip on me. I thought
I would never overcome them. Once I began to go to mass everyday
and spent more time in adoration these sins just disappeared. Temptations
which were hard for me to resist suddenly became easier. The grace
God gives us in the Eucharist is something we will not fully comprehend
until we get to heaven. It is one of God's sublime gifts.
Christ is there for us in times of darkness but also in times of
happiness. There have been times when everything has been going
right and I felt like I was on top of the world. I would share this
with Christ in the Eucharist and thank Him for all the wonderful
gifts he has given me. Jesus is there for us all the time not just
in times of distress. Christ wants to be a part of our lives sharing
in all its aspects joys, sorrows, worries, doubt, and times of need.
We are never alone. Christ is there with us keeping watch, guiding
us with His light. During the Eucharist Celebration we have
a chance to receive Jesus into our hearts and bodies everyday.
This is the greatest gift we have as Catholics. It is not
enough to just go to mass on Sundays. We have too much evil
coming at us from the world. We need Christ in us everyday,
so He can give us the strength to overcome temptation. Christ
comes in our hearts and fills it with His love transforming
ours into His.
