The Parenting Center The Parenting Center was founded in 1980 as a joint program of the Junior League of New Orleans and Children's Hospital with one mission — to nurture families. The Center is a multifaceted community resource that provides support and education to parents. The goals of the Center are to promote confidence and competence in parents, to encourage optimal child development, and to enhance the well-being of the family as a whole. To accomplish these goals, The Parenting Center offers a variety of programs that address the normal developmental problems and issues facing today's parents. The core services include programs for parents of infants and toddlers, and programs for parents of school-age through adolescent children. In addition to classes and regular group activities, individual counseling is available. Parenting classes are available to parents on a very reasonable class-fee basis. Class discounts are also available to members of The Parenting Center. For more information, please call The Parenting Center at (504) 896-9591 or send an e-mail to parenting@chnola.org or go to www.chnola.org. ****************** Seasons Seasons Grief Center is New Orleans' first and only non-profit grief center that offers specialized bereavement programs facilitated by professionally trained counselors and volunteers to help others through the grieving process. Educational and consulting programs are available for individuals, groups, and organizations. Donations are welcomed in memoriam. Grants, gifts, and corporate sponsorships help fund Seasons. Child -Parent-Relationship (C-P-R) Training When children have problems, sometimes they don't have the words to talk about them. Play gives children a way to communicate feelings they don't understand or can't express any other way. Play therapy has been shown to be an effective intervention with children for a variety of behavioral and emotional difficulties. Research has shown that motivated parents can be trained to be as effective as play therapists using play therapy skills with theri own children, with as little as 20 hours of Child-Parent-Relationship (C-P-R) Training. Child-Parent-Relationship (C-P-R) Training is conducted in 10 weekly, 2 hour sessions. the atmosphere is friendly and accepting and the training interactive, making it enjoyable and interesting. Contact Dr. Erin Dugan @ LSU Health Sciences Center at (504) 568-4329 or emart3@lsuhsc.edu for details on how to enroll. |
