St. Charles Borromeo School - Experience the Legacy - |

In 1723, the first German settlers came to the River
Parishes and built a chapel as a symbol of their faith. The little log
chapel on the river bank was dedicated to St. Charles Borromeo. The "Little
Red Church" was a landmark for travelers along the Mississippi River for
over one hundred years. We are blessed and remember the Germans for the
rich legacy they brought with them - the faith of their fathers. St. Charles
Borromeo School began educating the young of the area in 1929. Fr. John
Basty, along with the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, directed the
students in the strong faith and education which has been the foundation
of St. Charles Borromeo School for more than 70 years. Located on 17 acres
along River Road in Destrehan, the campus includes a historical cemetery
dating back to 1723, St. Charles Borromeo Church, the school cafeteria,
the Fred Roth Memorial Building (housing the gymnasium, meeting rooms,
and the parish office), the Pierre F. Friloux Early Childhood Center,
Fatima, Savio, and Pius academic buildings, and the Administration building
(housing the school office, library and technology lab). A capital campaign
is currently underway to raise funds to complete the second story of the
Savio Building. During the 250th anniversary of St. Charles Borromeo Church
Parish, Bishop Cailouet spoke of our family community... "Only a few of
our historical markers remain today, even the Red Church is gone. But
one thing remains...the Catholic faith, handed down from parent to child
through generation." Today, the pastor, principal, faculty, students and
alumni of St. Charles Borromeo School enhance this legacy by embracing
the ideals of Catholic education.

St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School has provided
a strong Catholic education for the youth of St. Charles Borromeo Parish,
and surrounding areas, since 1929. Educating students from early childhood
through 8th grade, generations of families have been a part of the S.C.B.
legacy. While stressing academic achievement, the school's primary emphases
are the Christian and moral virtues. The school nurtures intellectual
and social growth through the integration of technology, academics and
Catholic values. Impressive S.A.T. scores above the National norm, acceptance
of our 8th grade students into prominent Catholic High Schools in the
Archdiocese of N.O., innovative teaching methodologies and creative scheduling
components relays the message that S.C.B. is a leader in academics. Located
along the Mississippi River and surrounded by majestic, age-old oak trees,
our school is favored with a natural setting, providing an ideal environment
conducive to the academic and spiritual development of each child. Students
are provided many opportunities to work together and cultivate social
skills, moral principles and Christian service. Students share their gifts
and talents through a variety of extracurricular programs including band,
student council, jr. beta club, choir, garden club, yearbook club, cheerleading,
alpha omega drama club, tech club, and both boys and girls varsity and
junior varsity sports. We value the importance of strong parental support
and involvement as being vital to the success of our school. As we grow
in history, faith and tradition, we continue to form independent, mature
students with high ideals and strong academic backgrounds. As participants
in the admirable image characterized by St. Charles Borromeo, our inclusive
community of teachers, students, parents, priests, parishioners, and volunteers
truly represent the heart of an exemplary school.
